Asseco Lithuania signed an agreement with Information Technology and Communications Department under the Ministry of Interior to perform a follow-up project of the National Visa Information System (N.VIS) further development.

Project aims to modernise N.VIS and Visa Module of the Foreigners Registry (UR VM) meeting the requirements of the central Visa Information System (C.VIS), also to create technical conditions for a smooth connection of Lithuania‘s consulates and visa offices to the C.VIS according to the order approved by the European Commission for a gradual connection of regions to C.VIS.

The scope of the project covers expanding functionality of electronic application module that allows external service providers and foreigners to electronically apply for visa, also modernisation of N.VIS and UR VM software deploying data exchange between electronic application website and UR VM systems, further development of N.VIS system sustaining its compatibility with the latest C.VIS versions and changing application lifecycle order, expanding UR VM with a possibility to create new reports according to the approved data sets, also consulting users of the modernised software.

According to the current regulations a person should first visit a consular office for an interview with a consular officer, also submit various proving documents and biometric data (even after filling an application for visa). In order consular offices could better organise their work the electronic application module will be expanded with a functionality allowing a person to book in advance a visit time to a visa office. This will help a consular office to better manage its time, traffic of visitors, and for the persons there will be a possibility to avoid standing in queues and get an approved time for a visit to the officer.

Lithuania, like other Schengen member-countries, expands its National Visa Information System. Necessary changes are done according to N.VIS needs and C.VIS changes, consulates are gradually connected to C.VIS, tests are being performed with other member-countries, necessary reports are being submitted. This helps controlling persons at the border to Schengen area and thus improves safety in Schengen area.

Project is financed by the European Commission’s External Borders Fund (75%). Overall project value is 258.577 EUR.
