E-cinema was recognized as the best archive project of the year at the international FIAT/IFTA awards 2025

At the 49th FIAT/IFTA global conference “Everything is possible and nothing is true?” held in Rome at the end of October 2025, the E-KINAS (E-CINEMA) information system portal of the Lithuanian Central State Archives (LCVA) received the international FIAT/IFTA award in the nomination “Excellence in Unlocking the Value and Potential of Archives”. FIAT/IFTA is an international federation of television archives, which annually nominates the best archive projects.

“This is a virtual archive that all institutions preserving audiovisual heritage would like to have, but not everyone would be able to create and improve it,” said Brecht Declercq, former long-time FIAT/IFTA president and member of the awards committee. The commission named the strengths of the portal – it highlighted the attractive design of the website, geographical openness and the connection with the Lithuanian diaspora abroad created through the published content.

The representatives of the LCVA, together with the main competitors in their category – nominees from Ireland (RTÉ Archives) and Spain (RTVE), presented the E-KINAS portal live and participated in a question and answer session. During the GALA dinner, the award committee announced the winners. During the E-KINAS conference, the LCVA representatives received numerous professional questions, congratulations from colleagues from archives and other heritage institutions storing audiovisual content abroad, and international researchers and archival professionals showed interest in the website.

The award received is an assessment of the consistent preservation of Lithuanian audiovisual heritage, international recognition and even wider dissemination of films, photographs, and audio recordings stored in the archive, using modern technologies implemented in the E-KINAS portal.
